Western Sydney University is established in the larger western area of Sydney, Australia, which is its base. The university came into existence in 1989 as a federal network university through the merger of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College and the Nepean College of Advanced Education. In 1989, the institution merged with the Macarthur Institute of Higher Education. In 2001, the UWS changed its organizational structure from a federation to a single institution with many campuses. WSU is a top-tier institution with an increasing reputation for academic quality and research that has an impact.
