Liverpool John Moores University is a government research institution in the region of Liverpool, England. It is commonly popular by its abbreviation, LJMU. The Liverpool Mechanics’ School of Arts, which began in 1823, served as the university’s first academic home. Later, this was combined to become Liverpool Polytechnic. The Liverpool Polytechnic changed its name to LJMU  in 1992 as a result of a parliamentary act.

It bears the name of Sir John Moores, a local entrepreneur, and philanthropist who gave money to the university’s forerunner organizations. The institution, which is the 30th largest university in the UK by total student population, had 25,050 students in 2019–20, of whom 20,105 are undergraduate students and 4,945 are postgraduate students. It belongs to the Northern Consortium, the University Alliance, and the European University Association.

Since its establishment, it has advanced significantly. Having become a university in 1992, as of the most recent edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it ranks 60th overall. Furthermore, according to the QS World University Rankings 2023, it is one of the best public universities in Liverpool. Additionally, the Liverpool John Moores University QS ranking places it at #801–1000. Also, it holds the 54th position in the LJMU UK ranking.
