The University of Sheffield or Sheffield University is a tertiary educational public research institution based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Its founding dates are 1828 for Sheffield Medical School, 1879 for Firth College, and 1884 for Sheffield Technical School. The University College of Sheffield, which was eventually formed by the merger of the three colleges, was later granted a royal charter as the Sheffield UK by King Edward VII in 1905. It is one of the earliest red-brick universities and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group. The university has a global reputation for impressive teaching, influential research, a global perspective, and an extraordinary student experience.
