The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Alberta College of Art & Design (now integrated into the University of Alberta) offers an immersive education in ceramic arts within a broader fine arts context. This program encourages students to develop personal creativity and mastery of various ceramic techniques, including traditional and contemporary methods. Students develop their understanding of art by creating studio art as well as attending courses about art history and visual culture. With the program, students are encouraged to think critically and improve their creativity and skills as they work with different materials. After finishing the program, students are equipped to pursue jobs as artists, teachers, curators, or designers in many areas. All in all, the BFA offers an ideal combination of making art and studying it thoroughly in ceramics and fine arts.
They all include unique training in the students’ chosen professions, mixing knowledge with hands-on experience to get them ready for work. While Northern College’s diplomas in engineering and technology pre are students for the workplace, the BFA in Ceramics teaches them to be creative and insightful in art.
