The Diploma in Onajigawin Indigenous Services (including the accelerated option) at Confederation College is an Education discipline program dedicated to preparing students for careers in Indigenous human services. This program emphasizes cultural safety, Indigenous wellness, addictions prevention, social justice, and advocacy, equipping graduates to support Indigenous children, youth, families, and communities effectively.
The program provides Indigenous Knowledge and Pedagogy, and provides a decolonized approach to curriculum and assessment. The college is committed to an education that honors and incorporates Indigenous ways of knowing so that when graduates are out in the field they are able to do meaningful work in human services.
Students acquire therapeutic relationships, holistic healing practices, case management, and working with Indigenous governance and social service agencies skills. The students qualify to register as Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers after their graduation. This program is ideal for people who are passionate about Indigenous resurgence and social justice, the program is community oriented as well as culturally relevant.
