Melbourne International Engagement Awards (MIEA)

Melbourne International Engagement Awards are available to fund Peking University students to pursue a Ph.D. in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne. These prestigious scholarships provide full-fee remissions (worth approximately AUD 35,000 in 2016) and annual living stipends equivalent to the Australian Postgraduate Award rate (worth AUD 26,288 in 2016) for up to 3.5 years. MIEAs also provide single-cover health insurance and a relocation allowance of up to AUD$3,000.

To be eligible for the MIEA scholarship, a recipient must

  1. be studying in or have completed a master’s degree, or a fourth-year undergraduate student with an outstanding academic record, in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University
  2. have not completed a PhD, and
  3. Commence PhD at the university when the scholarship is awarded
  4. Selection is based on the academic merit of applicants.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  1. have applied for and meet the requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or
  2. enrolled in graduate research degree
  1. All domestic students who get admission offer to a Master by Research or doctoral degree (PhD) at the University of Melbourne will receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset).
  2. Graduate Research Scholarships that provide a stipend as well as fee offset are awarded to domestic and international students based on academic merit. 

China Scholarship Council

University of Melbourne PhD Scholarship

This scholarship is available by the China Scholarship Council and the University of Melbourne to promote international collaboration and is offered to citizens of the People’s Republic of China wishing to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the University of Melbourne.

The University of Melbourne will provide:

  1. a full tuition fee scholarship for a PhD for up to four years
  2. a supplementary living allowance of around $14,200 per year (2024 full-time pro rata rate) for up to four years
  3. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) will provide:
  4. a living allowance of approximately $22,800 per year (2024 rate) including Overseas Student Health Cover
  5. a return airfare between China and Melbourne by the most economical route
  6. visa application fees

Eligibility

  1. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
  2. be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China
  3. have received an offer for a place in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) course at the University of Melbourne. This requires completion of at least a four-year undergraduate degree, with the equivalent of a minimum overall average grade of H2A (or 75%) achieved at the University of Melbourne with a significant research component. The maintenance of the English language is a requirement.
