Royal Roads University (RRU) offers a vibrant research environment for PhD students. While there isn’t a central pool of university-wide entrance scholarships specifically for PhD programs, there are still ways to secure funding for your doctoral studies. Doctoral Scholarships provide awards of up to $10,000 to RRU postgraduate students to support the program’s research phase and encourage the timely completion of study.
Doctoral Academic Excellence Award

Eligibility
- Fewer than three full years of participation in the program (36 months or less, not counting leaves).
- Where the panel uses the phrase “spread the love,” reasonable financial necessity and other rewards concerning other candidates may be considered.
- A recipient may receive up to two Doctoral Academic Excellence Awards.
How to apply?
The competition is scheduled annually from September 1 to November 1 (closing at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific), subject to funding availability.

A research proposal should be 750 words and address the research topic, research question, research value in advancing theory and practice, and the applicant’s intellectual leadership. A letter of recommendation from their academic supervisor, if one is assigned, or if this is their second application for the same award. Doctoral Scholarship Presentation Awards Up to $2,000

RRU postgraduate students are awarded through the Doctorate Scholarship Presentation Awards to support excellent doctoral research. This funding is contingent upon a student’s presentation during the second residency. It is intended to assist postgraduate students whose research will impact management research and practice (DBA Programme) or make a noteworthy interdisciplinary contribution to applied scholarship in the social sciences (DSocSci Programme). These students must demonstrate the promise of academic excellence and progress toward the Candidature and proposal.
How to apply?
There is no need to apply A selection of professors and staff members will be chosen by the heads of the PhD programs to evaluate the poster presentations made by the students and have meaningful discussions with them about their learning. These assessors will gather award nominations, and the relevant program heads will decide on the final prizes.
