A public university in Cumbria, it has campuses in Lancaster, Ambleside, and London in addition to its main campus in Carlisle. Its roots can be traced to the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts’ foundation in 1822. Its psychology course is ranked 22nd in England and its law course is ranked 8th in the UK in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020. St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts, and the University of Central Lanca came together to form the University of Cumbria in 2007 (Guardian University Guide 2020).
