The Canadian Coast Guard is a Canadian institution offering maritime instruction. Located in Westmount, Nova Scotia, a suburb of Sydney, the Coast Guard facility was established in 1965 and is part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.Â

This four-year curriculum is designed to help you become a better leader as well as an educator.
Pay and benefits
You are applying to the college for a degree program as well as a position in the Public Service of Canada when you apply. Once you are accepted into the program, you work for the company and will be paid:Â
- a fully paid education
- a monthly allowance
- textbooks and uniforms
- accommodations and meals
- medical and dental coverage
- Four weeks of paid vacation leave per year
Graduates of the Officer Training Program are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the Canadian Coast Guard and perform day-to-day duties. Upon completion of the four-year program, you will receive:
Bachelor of Technology degree in nautical science from Cape Breton University
Canadian Coast Guard College diploma
Commercial certification as a ship’s officer from Transport Canada
