In British Columbia, Canada, a multi-campus, small government institution with a focus on research is known as the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). Prince George is home to the main campus of the university. However, there are additional campuses in Prince Rupert, Terrace, Quesnel, and Fort St. John. However, according to Maclean’s magazine, UNBC ranked as the top university in Canada for institutions of its size in the Primarily Undergraduate category in 2022. Moreover, UNBC consistently places in the leading three in its category and also won the rankings in 2015 and 2016. It also comes second in its group in 2023. The institution secured the “Canada’s Green University” trademark in 2007. Additionally, approximately 70–75 percent of applicants attend the university because of the University of Northern British Columbia acceptance rate.
