Concordia University offers a vibrant research environment for PhD students, but securing funding can be a complex process. While there isn’t a central pool of university-wide PhD scholarships, there are still ways to finance your doctoral studies.
International Tuition Award of Excellence
Value: Reduces tuition for international students. Valued at approximately $44,893

Eligibility
- To be accepted into Concordia University’s doctorate programme is a requirement.
- You have to be a new international PhD student.
- If you do not currently receive assistance (such as government mobility grants, scholarships from other universities, or sponsorships from other organisations) that lowers tuition to the Quebec rate.
Application and selection
The application for the Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence is part of the admissions procedure. Your application for admission will also be your award application.
International doctoral candidates receiving Concordia International Tuition Awards of Excellence upon entering the PhD programme will be the rule, with the exception of those whose tuition is covered by other outside organisations.
Repayment procedure
Five (5) working days after the DNE date of each term, your student account will be adjusted with tuition fees following confirmation of full-time registration.
Doctoral Graduate Fellowship
Value: $14,000 per year for four years

Value: $14,000 a year for four years, with a $56,000 total reward value.
Application and selection
You should submit your fellowship application together with your admissions application as soon as possible, since the fellowship application is a requirement for the admissions process.
The individual programmes are in charge of choosing the winners of the Concordia University Doctoral Graduate Fellowship.
Disbursement process
- Five working days after each term’s DNE date, fellowship payments are made following confirmation of full-time enrollment, unless otherwise noted in the award announcement.
- Your student’s account receives applications of overdue tuition and fees. You must use their Student Centre to seek a cheque refund if there is still credit in the account.
- Within ten business days of your refund request, checks will be mailed to the address on file.
Doctoral Graduate Fellowship (direct entry from bachelor’s)
You can start your doctoral studies as soon as you finish your undergraduate degree by applying directly to a PhD programme, skipping the conventional master’s degree programme. It offers a direct route into further studies for high-achieving students with a CGPA of 4.0 and above, enabling them to immerse themselves in their chosen field under the guidance of eminent experts.

Eligibility
- After earning your bachelor’s degree, you are accepted directly into the PhD programme.
- To hold a bachelor’s degree from Quebec is a requirement.
- Before you enrolled in the PhD programme and after receiving your bachelor’s degree, you had no registrations totaling more than six credits.
- As a part-time, independent, non-degree-seeking student, I have to make registrations for undergraduate or graduate-level courses.
- Prior to beginning your bachelor’s degree, you had never registered for a doctorate.

The Graduate Programme Director should be spoken with by prospective students who are interested in going directly from their bachelor’s to their PhD and intend to use the same application for both the fellowship and admission.
