Thompson Rivers University (TRU) offers a welcoming environment for graduate students and understands the importance of financial support. Scholarships are primarily awarded based on high academic standing. Students who have received a graduate scholarship may still be eligible for a bursary.

Dr. Sherman Jen Graduate Entrance Award
Value: 8 awards valued at $6000 each
Eligibility: To qualify, you have to:
Enrolled in a full-time graduate program leading to a master’s degree in environmental science, a master’s degree in data science, or a master’s degree in education.
End date: June 1st
Students with exceptional academic performance and impressive research projects in their previous coursework are considered for the Dr. Sherman Jen Graduate Entrance Awards. Leadership actions will also be taken into account during the selection process.
Complete all sections of the application.
- A personal statement (in the online application – 300 words or less) indicates leadership activities and academic goals. Student government, volunteer work, community and religious organisations, sports and athletics, music and art, clubs, and any other activity that has helped you grow yourself and has a significant impact on others can all be considered areas of leadership or involvement.
- A letter of support from a business or academic reference, sent as a PDF, and it should not be longer than 200 words.
- Your legal transcripts and resume (emailed as a PDF).
BC Graduate Scholarships
Four awards valued at $17,500 each.
Eligibility
- Possess citizenship in Canada or permanent residency.
- Commencing their first or second year of a full-time, on-campus program.
- Graduate program (focusing primarily on the first year).
- Exhibit superior academic performance.
Deadline: December 1
The primary, though not exclusive, objective of professional, research-intensive graduate programs in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects will be fulfilling eligibility requirements. Preference will go to Indigenous students.
TRU Graduate Student Research Mentor Fellowship
Deadline: March 15 (annually).
Value: $7,000; multiple awards available.
These grants will be given to TRU graduate students, both local and foreign, who are actively conducting research and who aspire to assist undergraduate scholars, researchers, and creative thinkers. Mentors will operate as a team, mentoring students from various majors and backgrounds, sharing resources, and cooperating with professors. They will volunteer with the Research Office on some projects linked to the advancement of student research.
Note: Graduate program coordinators must receive all paperwork electronically. The program coordinator may get letters of recommendation from faculty members directly.
Note: The PhD programs offered by Thompson Rivers University (TRU) are not conventional. Universities with a robust research concentration usually provide PhD programs, while TRU concentrates on graduate certifications, professional programs at the Master’s level, and applied learning.
