Financial Aid and Scholarships for Foreign Students
The University of Oregon offers several undergraduate and graduate financial aid programs to international students. Over $2.5 million in economic aid and scholarships are given to international students annually by UO. The General University Scholarship Program automatically considers incoming first-year students (domestic and foreign) who apply before January 15.
UO Excellence Scholarship
First-year non-resident students with outstanding academic records and exceptional admissions applications will be automatically considered for the UO Excellence Scholarship. These esteemed honors are awarded in small quantities.

Details of the Award
A select few entering autumn 2025 non-resident top scholars will receive $80,000 over four years, or $20,000 annually, as part of the UO Excellence Scholarship. The annual award is distributed equally among the fall, winter, and spring terms. Other UO scholarships, such as the Diversity Excellence and General University Scholarships, can be paired with the UO Excellence Scholarship. It cannot be used in conjunction with the Apex, Summit, or Stamps scholarships. The UO Excellence Scholarship will be awarded for a fifth year to students enrolled in five-year degree programs. To be eligible for this award, you must enrol at UO during the autumn term of your first year and complete 12 University of Oregon credits per term.
Criteria for Selection
Only a select few of these honors are given to the best non-resident students. Examining the academic transcripts and admissions application is the basis for consideration and selection.
How to Apply
There is no need for a second application; you will be automatically considered for the UO Excellence Scholarship. You have to just:
- By January 15th, submit your admissions application.
- By February 15, turn in all necessary admission application materials to the Office of Admissions.
Renewing Scholarships
Excellence at UO For students pursuing a BLA, BIARC, or BARCH degree, scholarships are renewable for a maximum of 12 academic terms (not including summer) over five years or 15 academic terms over six years. Scholarships for International Cultural Service Program (ICSP)
The ICSP scholarship covers a portion of the cost of tuition. Scholarships are awarded for tuition alone and are determined by academic merit, financial necessity, and the capacity to deliver to a variety of audiences. As part of the cultural service component of the ICSP scholarship, students must present about their homeland to children, community organizations, and UO students, faculty, and staff. ICSP scholarships are renewable until one degree is earned.
