Scholarship inclusions: | Scholarships include a stipend of $31,500 (AUD) per annum for three (3) years. The Research Training Program (RTP) of the Australian Government pays for tuition expenses for scholars studying domestically. |
Scholarship exclusions: | An Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC) (opens in new window) insurance policy is not included in scholarships awarded to overseas students. For the length of their studies in Australia, students must pay this expense. The scholarship does not cover relocation costs, travel expenses, visa fees, or other charges. |
Eligible for a scholarship

Scholarship announcements have set start dates. Studying must begin by the deadlines listed for the relevant release.
You must either.
1. be onshore in Australia and have a valid visa that permits you to study there, or
2. be onshore in Australia and be able to secure a visa that permits you to remain in Australia to study to begin your studies by the deadline.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Scholarships
A partnership arrangement has been developed between the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Western Sydney University to offer superior research training to applicants from Pakistan.
The selected candidates will enroll in Western Sydney University’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program and work on a supervised research project.
Value
- HEC will cover return international travel to Australia, a living stipend, and a portion of the cost of overseas student health insurance.
- As the scholarship inclusions could vary, you should verify them on the HEC International Scholarships website (opens in a new window).
- Students after selection will receive a tuition fee waiver grant from Western Sydney University, which will pay for their tuition for a maximum of 48 months.
Eligibility
- Be a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and a permanent resident at the time of application.
- Have applied for and been invited to apply for a HEC Overseas Scholarship (opens in new window).
- Meet the standards set forth by the Australian Government for a student visa (opens in new window) for postgraduate study.
- Have applied for admission and fulfill all prerequisites, including proficiency in English.
- Was granted admission to Western Sydney University’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
- Possess a conditional scholarship offer from Western Sydney University.
- Meet all other HEC-defined qualifying requirements.

Before the application deadline, you must immediately apply for an HEC overseas scholarship and ensure that you meet all the program’s requirements.
Step 2: Get an application invitation from HEC.
You will receive an official invitation to apply for admission at Western Sydney University if HEC shortlists your application.
Step 3: Look for a supervisor
To submit your application, you must locate a supervisor at Western Sydney University and obtain a supervisor letter of support.
