To help PhD students with their research and academic objectives, Edith Cowan University (ECU) provides a range of scholarships. These scholarships, which are intended to promote creative research and academic performance, are open to both domestic and international students.

ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships

These grants are intended to assist postgraduate students who show strong research potential and who are pursuing a higher degree at ECU through research. Scholarships are awarded based on research performance and academic merit. The RTP Stipend Scholarship or the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship would be given to successful applicants. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition as well as a $33,000 annual stipend that is paid biweekly via electronic funds transfer. Additional perks include, if applicable, an overseas student health cover policy for international students and a relocation allowance for domestic students. A Master’s Research degree can be earned with the scholarship for up to two years full-time, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) can be earned for up to three years full-time.

Those who meet the following minimal requirements will be eligible:

Have been made an offer of a place in an ECU Higher Degree by PhD, Integrated PhD research course or Master by Research.

You can apply for this scholarship if you have applied for course entrance but have not received an offer yet.

Your application will be evaluated if you receive an unconditional course offer from the scholarship.

If any of the following apply to you, you are not eligible to apply for these scholarships:

  1. You have received an Australia Award or an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship each of the last two years.
  2. If your Doctor of Philosophy program starts after 01/12/2025.
  3. If you want to start your Masters by Research program after the first semester of 2025.
  4. If, as per the RTP Conditions of Award, your income exceeds 75% of the 2025 RTP introductory stipend rate ($33,000), you are not eligible to be considered for the RTP Stipend award.
