Canada’s MacEwan University is a public undergraduate institution in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. It was once a two-year college before becoming Alberta’s sixth University in 2009. MacEwan University has ten bachelor’s degrees, one applied degree, and forty-three diploma and certificate programs. The University placed in the TOP 50% in 35 research fields, ranked 2349th globally in the 2024 grade, and 56th in Canada. Students can apply for hundreds of distinctive scholarships, awards, and bursaries from MacEwan, available to students in all program years. Scholarships are granted based on academic standing. International students can study and work in Canada through a fully funded scholarship program.

MacEwan University determines eligibility for its Automated Entrance Scholarships based on the following tiers for overseas degree students.
95-100% or A GPA higher than 3.99 Chancellor’s Scholarship – $10,000-$14,000
90-94.99% or A GPA of 3.90-3.99 President’s Scholarship – $8,000-$12,000
85-89.99% or A GPA of 3.70-3.89 Provost’s Scholarship – $6,000-$10,000
80-84.99% or AGPA of 3.50-3.69 Dean’s Scholarship – $4,000-$8,000
Criteria
- As an international student, you must obtain a valid study permit and be admitted to study during the Fall semester.
- I will be registered in a degree program at MacEwan University as of the first day following the September add/drop deadline. I will have completed at least 12 credits at the university level in the upcoming academic year’s Autumn and Winter terms.
- To be admitted to a program that falls inside one of the scholarship categories, you must have a grade point average high enough in the courses taken.
- Stay enrolled in the minimum number of credits required for the Fall and Winter terms after the add/drop deadline.
Limitations, Clarifications, and Notes:
- A person may only receive this scholarship a single (1) time in their lifetime.
- This grant is unavailable to certificate or university transfer program students.
- If there is a disagreement over this scholarship, MacEwan International will have the last say in upholding the program’s objectives.
- To be eligible for the scholarship’s second payout in the Winter term, students must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 in the fall term and 12 university-level credits in both the fall and winter terms.
- Eligible students with the highest averages will be given scholarships, starting with those with the highest academic records, until all funds have been exhausted.
- There is no application process; international students are instantly evaluated for eligibility.
- Maths 099 and University Preparation courses do not count for university credits.
Selection of Award
Selection is made automatically. The admit letter will notify the recipients. In a disagreement over this scholarship, MacEwan International will have the last say in upholding the program’s objectives.

ALBERTA ATHLETIC AWARD

Exceptional student-athletes playing on a team or in a sporting event sponsored by the Alberta University Athletic Association (AUAA) or the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) receive the Alberta Athletic Award.
Criteria
- The minimum enrollment requirement for a student is 60% of the total course load.
- If a student has a proven permanent or documented persistent or extended disability as specified by the Student Aid Operational Policy & Procedures and is enrolled in at least 40% of a full course load, they may qualify.
- The University can define a full-time course load for each program.
- Students must enroll in the necessary courses during the relevant Autumn or Winter term.
- In the current academic year, students must enroll in their second or subsequent term of an undergraduate or professional program at an Albertan postsecondary institution that qualifies.
- Students in an upgrading, college preparation, or Open Studies program may be eligible after completing one term of upgrading but are only eligible for the award for a maximum of one year (i.e., a student continuing in upgrading, college preparation, or Open Studies may only receive a maximum of 2 consecutive awards of $900, after which they are no longer eligible unless they move into an apprenticeship, undergraduate or professional postsecondary program must have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 on 4.0 scale to qualify for the award.
Athletic Requirements
The Alberta University Athletic Association (AUAA) or the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) must designate a team and sporting event for students to participate in.
