Italy is a prevalent choice for overseas students since it provides excellent education together with a diverse cultural experience. There are certain similar requirements, but the admissions process for studying in Italy differs depending on the program and the level of study. In this article, we will discuss all the details of admission procedure in Italy.

How to get admission in Italy?

There are some steps to follow to take admission in Italy.

  1. Submit all educational and identity documents to start your admission process
  2. Select Course, start application, pay fee and submit
  3. Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview and some might ask for entrance test.
  4. Get your all documents attested from IBCC, HEC, MOFA
  5. Pay 1 semester fee and apply for pre enrollment
  6. After interview they will send you an offer letter after 1-2 months
  7. Get your documents translated into Italian Language.
  8. Apply for declaration of value from Embassy  (DOV)
  9. After that you will apply for visa
  10. You can fly.

Intakes to study in Italy

Admissions usually open from January to April for September Intake. There is only one intake for international Students.

Step 1

Find University

In Italy, there are numerous universities that offer English language programs. Here are some prestigious universities:

Fee Range

Most programs cost between 1200 and 3000 euros a year, although others charge as much as 5000 euros. Before receiving a visa, students must pay the term fee from Pakistan or the relevant nation.

Cycles of Admission

Three cycles make up university education:

First cycle degrees (laurea – L) and second cycle degrees (laurea magistrale – LM) are the qualifications given. Students must get 180 educational credits (CFU) in a maximum of 20 exams in order to receive a first cycle degree; in a maximum of 12 tests, they must earn 120 CFU in order to receive a second cycle degree.

First cycle degree (Bachelor): 180 credits, duration 3 years.


Second cycle degree (Two Years Master): 120 credits, duration 2 years.

Single Cycle (Combined Bachelor and Master): 300 credits: Architecture, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Pharmacy, Law, Building and Architectural Engineering, Primary Teacher Education, Veterinary Medicine.

360 credits: Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prostheses.

3rdCycle (PhD program, Research Doctorate): duration 3/4 years.

Details of IMAT examination

The exam appears once a year and qualifies for admission to all Italian public medical schools that accept English.
Average cost: £140, EUR 130, or USD 164.

IMAT 2024 date: 9th September, 2024

IMAT 2024 Format: 60 multiple choice questions 

  1. 10 logical reasoning
  2. 12 culture and general knowledge
  3. 18 biology
  4. 12 chemistries
  5. 8 physics and math

5 possible answers. Negative points for wrong answers. 100 minutes to complete exam.

Negative scoring: +1.5 point for correct answer, 0 for no answer, -0.4 points for wrong answer (guessing)

No calculators and no periodic tables are given or allowed.

Maximum possible mark: 90 points

Minimum score for admission (varies according to demand): approx. 37 points.

Step 2

Details Required for Admission:

•        Deadlines are mostly from Jan-April

•        Most Universities application procedure is online with or without application fee.

•        Application fee ranges between 10-50 Euros

Document Required for Admission:

•        Educational Docs (Matric/O-level to present)

•        Motivation Letter

•        Passport

•        Language Proficiency Certificate/IELTS

Step: 3

Check your Eligibility

For Bachelor Students

  1. BA, B.com, 2+2 Degrees, 2years b.com and MBA will be considers under bachelors
  2. IELTS 6.0 bands
  3. 12 year of education 60%

For Masters Students

  1. 16 years of education
  2. Minimum CGPA 2.2
  3. Ielts 6.0/ English proficiency letter

Step: 4

Apply for Admission

• Choose your course;
• Register on the relevant university website
• Upload all supporting documentation
• Send in your application
• The university will send you an email confirming receipt.

Step: 5

Wait for Result

Ideally, you should apply to two or three universities. The university will send you an offer letter if you are chosen. Typically, it will take one to two months.

Post Admission Process

Step: 1

Validation of the Academic Records

BOARD: Attest Original and Four Copies of Transcript and Matric/FSc Degree from Reputable Boards. It requires five to ten days. Typically, one photocopy of each of the aforementioned documents may be given to you in a board envelope sealed with a seal. It is not necessary for you to open the envelope. It contains the IBCC record.

IBCC: After your board confirms the accuracy of your educational records, you must certify the same records from IBCC.

HEC: Following university transcript and degree verification. Make an appointment on the HEC website to verify degrees from universities, despite HEC’s one-day attestation of it. Appointment dates, however, vary greatly in duration based on availability.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA): For attestation, you must now bring all of your educational records, your FRC, your income certificate from FBR, and your death certificate in the event that your parents are not living to the foreign office or their regional office (CAMP Office). They testify to it within a day.

You must convert these documents into Italian after attestation.
NOTE: Translation is only possible upon request from the university.
Translations must come from authorized sources; translations from other sources won’t be acceptable by the embassy. The official interpreter is given below.

Step 2:

Pre-Enrollment

You will receive an email from the university requesting you to complete the pre-enrollment process and provide the papers you previously sent to your university portal. The university will later confirm those records and forward them to your embassy.

Step 3

Apply for a Cimea

A Cimea is essentially an academic evaluation certificate that is given by an Italian authority via an internet portal after all original educational records have been submitted. The certificate comes in within 15 to 20 days, and the CIMEA charge is 400 euros for an urgent process and 300 euros for an ordinary process.

Step 4:

Applying for a Punjab and Gilgit visa in Pakistan

  1. To submit your file and schedule an appointment, go to the BLS Global website for the Karachi Consulate. April through July appointments are given out by the embassy.
  2. Following your application for an appointment, the embassy will contact you via phone or email. Your appointment time and date.

How to get a VISA for Sindh or Balochistan?

Appointments must be made through BLS Global, and files must be handed in to the BLS office in Karachi.
Embassy will contact you using the number from your pre-enrollment summary. 

Require Documents for Visa

  1. Visa application form
  2. CNIC copy A4 Size
  3. Admission letter/ Acceptance letter
  4. D.O.V (Declaration of Value) if you don’t have Dov then its receipt
  5. Attested Educational Documents + Copies + Translation (IBCC, HEC, MOFA)
  6. DOMICILE FORM A & FORM C
  7. Polio Certificate (not mandatory)
  8. IELTS (Minimum 6 Bands)
  9. Ticket (one way towards Italy) – DUMY TICKET
  10. Hotel/Accommodation Proof (DUMY BOOKING. At least one month – It can be done through booking.com)
  11. Insurance – You are required a full Schengen Travel Insurance. It will cost approx. Rs. 8,000-11,000.
  12. Sponsor Affidavit of Support
  13. Sponsor ID (CNIC & TRUE TRANSLATION)
  14. Sponsor Bank Statement and Account Maintenance Certificate (standard amount is 8000-10,000 Euro) TO BE EXACT ITS A minimum of € 459.83 for each month of the academic year (€ 5977.79 per year) is required. Can’t show less than that.
  15. Sponsor Job letter with 5 months’ Salary slip/salary certificate
  16. Family Registration Certificate (issued from NADRA)
  17. Original Passport & Photocopies (2 set only) A4 size copy (Page 1-4 and then last 2 pages)
  18. Pictures (White background) NOTE: Without glasses and scarf

For a one-year multiple student visa, the approximate visa price is Rs. 17,390. Students from other provinces should bring these documents along with their DOV documents to the embassy on the day of the interview. Most likely, thirty to forty-five days later, they will call you to schedule an interview. Bring a recent bank statement to the interview one that is not more than 15 days old.

Step: 5

Wait for Passport Collection Call

Once you’ve submit your passport, visa application, and interview, wait for the Italian embassy or consulate to contact you so you can pick up your passport from July to October.

NOTE: The entire process will require six to seven months. Thus, try not to panic. Students typically receive their passports back in August or October, along with a rejection letter or visa stamp.

Documents necessary for the Scholarship

Three documents must be translation and attested from the Pakistani embassy in Rome, after they have been attested by the foreign office. They are as follows:
1. The NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC)
2. Your father’s income certificate from FBR, which details the annual income he made the previous year.
3. Declaration of assets; if you do not own any property, you may provide the rent agreement for the residence you now occupy together with a property certificate certified by the tehsildar.

The scholarship application process

 It’s revealed in June or July.

Step 1: Apply online at http://www.laziodisco.it. When the scholarship is made public in June or July.
Step 2: You will receive a receipt at the conclusion of your online application. All you have to do is print the receipt. Sign it and send it, together with a copy of your passport, to the Scholarship Office in Italy.

Important: Avoid sending your paper along with a friend’s. Only one applicant’s paperwork should be contained in one envelope.

Step 3: In August or September, LAZIODISCU will release a list of scholarship recipients. To access your LazioDiscu account, log in. assuming you qualify for a scholarship. For you, it will be written WINNER. It serves as verification that you qualify for the scholarship.
Step 4: The following documents are necessary for scholarship purposes before travelling to Italy.
The property certificate can be obtained from the tehsildar, the DC, the MUKHTIARKAR office, or any other property dealer in your province.

Important information

You won’t receive the scholarship money right away. The initial installment is paid out every four to five months. Therefore, at first, you should have at least €2000–2200 with you. It will pay for your monthly living and mess costs, annual transit card, Permesso di Soggiorno charge, university tax (if you are a scholarship winner), and other necessary modest fees.
Two installments will be paid for the scholarship.
The amount of the first installment is €2600.
After ten months, the second installment of €2600 will be made available.
To be eligible for the second year, you had to have at least 30 CFU in your first year exams. Additionally, you require the three documents listed above.
