Future and current Swinburne students studying a Professional Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program can apply for SUPRA scholarships.

Eligibility
- Candidates must fulfill the prerequisites for candidacy as outlined in their suggested curriculum.

Selection criteria
- Fulfill the prerequisites for admission to Swinburne for a PhD or Professional Doctorate.
- Possess a first-class honors bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Suggest a study that aligns with an ecosystem area and research plan.
Candidates should confirm that they fulfill one of the requirements below:
- By the application round’s closing date, you must either be a prospective PhD or professional doctorate candidate
- Studying in a Swinburne PhD or professional doctorate program for less than two years,Â
- OR have received an offer of candidature but have yet to enroll in the program.

Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship
Judith Kinnear, a Former Swinburne student, who has held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Massey University in New Zealand. This scholarship is for travel expenses to attend conferences, visit colleagues at research institutes, meet potential business or research collaborators, or for similar purposes by students studying in postgraduate programs, such as a Master’s (by research) or Ph.D.
Value | The value of this award is $5,000. When original receipts for expenses such as conference registration, travel, and/or lodging are produced and submitted to the university, the scholarship award will be given as a reimbursement. |
Courses eligible | The School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, or the School of Engineering, provides master’s (by research) and doctoral degrees. |
Eligibility
For the Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship, candidates need to:
Fulfill the subsequent enrollment requirements:
- Studying full-time in an appropriate course as a continuing Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2024 (see courses eligible in the section above).
- Send a 500-word personal statement explaining how attending a “significant career-impacting international event” will advance their career and help their professional development.
- Show that they have little or no access to outside finance for their trip plans and visit and that they can only go on the trip with the necessary funds.
- Give an approximate breakdown of the necessary expenses (e.g., conference registration, travel and/or lodging expenses, etc.).
- Be starting their journey the year the scholarship is given out.
Note: The effect, if any, that any journey outside of Australia may have any visa issues will be the subject of applicants’ independent consultation with the appropriate authorities.
How to apply
By March 31, 2024, applicants must finish and submit an online application form along with any necessary supporting papers.
Research Training Program Stipend – RTPS
Candidates with outstanding research potential enrolling in Higher Degree by Research (HDR) courses are eligible to apply for RTPS scholarships, which help with living expenses in general.
Future and current Swinburne students participating in or applying for a Professional Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program are eligible for these awards.

For a Swinburne research scholarship application, the following are the considerations:Â
- fulfill the prerequisites for admission to Swinburne’s Ph.D. or Professional Doctorate program; possess a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or a comparable degree;
- and be studying as an international or local student (i.e., an Australian, New Zealand, Australian citizen, or permanent resident).
- Suggest a study that aligns with an ecosystem area and research strategy.
Candidates should confirm that they fulfill one of the requirements below:
- Are either a prospective Ph.D. or professional doctorate candidate OR, as of the application round’s closing date, have been enrolled in a Swinburne Ph.D. or professional doctorate for less than two years
- have received an offer of candidature but have yet to enroll in the program.
