Vancouver Island University is a public institution in Canada. It was founded in 1969 as Malaspina College and offers graduate and undergraduate programmes in a wide range of subjects.
VIU offers a variety of scholarships and awards to help undergraduate students finance their education. These awards are based on academic merit, financial need, or both. These scholarships are awarded to new students entering VIU for the first time. The amount of the grant varies according to the scholarship.
VIU Worldwide Entrance Award
Number: Maximum 20 each year
Amount: $1,000 per award
Criteria: This award is given to new international undergraduates with a solid academic background who apply to a degree-granting program each year. Starting in the fall semester, up to 20 of the best academic applicants are awarded it based on the grades from the submitted transcripts.
Applications are needed. The deadline is April 12, 2025, before admission in September. Applications become available after November 1.
BC High School Entrance Award
Number: Maximum 5 each year
Amount: $2,500 per award
Criteria: Available to overseas applicants graduating from a British Columbian high school with a Dogwood Diploma and have applied to enrol in a degree-granting program at VIU. Applicants may also apply if they graduate from an offshore school in British Columbia. Given to the top five candidates for admission to the Fall semester by their final grades (highest combined mark average, minimum of 85%).

International Baccalaureate Scholarship
Number: Maximum 2 each year
Amount: $10,000
Requirements: Available to all overseas students who have earned an IB diploma in full. The highest average of all combined marks from an approved International Baccalaureate school determines selection. Consideration is contingent upon a minimum of thirty anticipated points.
Applications are needed. The deadline is April 12, 2024, before admission in September. Applications become available after November 1.
