In addition, the minimum academic requirement for admission to Emily Carr University undergraduate programs is graduation from grade 12 secondary school minimum overall grade point average required for admission is 67%

International Baccalaureate (IB): A minimum requirement of 24 points

A-levels: ABB–BBC

Postgraduate:

Applications from applicants who hold the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Media Arts, and Bachelor of Architecture.
Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in a field outside of art and design may also apply but must demonstrate studio proficiency with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B).

English Language Requirements:

Undergraduate

IELTS: minimum band 6.5, with no component less than 6.0

TOEFL: minimum of 84 out of 120 total points including a minimum score in each of the four skills; Speaking 20/30, Reading 20/30, Writing 18/30, and Listening 20/30.

PTE – Pearson Test of English Academic: minimum score of 56

Postgraduate:

IELTS: Minimum band 7.0 including a minimum score in each component; Speaking 7.0, Reading 7.0, and Writing 7.0 and Listening 6.5.

TOEFL: Minimum of 90 out of 120 points including a minimum score in each of the four skills; Speaking 22/30, Reading 22/30, Writing 22/30, and Listening 20/30.

Along with our main fall intake in September, we also offer a spring intake in January into select programs, including those in the two drop-down menus below.

How to Apply | Graduate Admissions

We offer one yearly intake into all graduate programs. However, both Master of Design and Master of Fine Arts degrees begin in the fall.

September 15 | Applications Open.

January 15 | Applications Close

Application fee: International applicants can apply to the PG programs through the university’s online portal with an application fee of CAD 100.

Emily Carr University Entrance Scholarships for BC High School and International Students

  • Several entrance scholarships for full tuition study in the Foundation year were year awarded to BC high school students planning on attending Emily Carr directly after graduation.
  • Several International entrance scholarships, ranging from $2000 to $5000 Canadian dollars for study at any level.

You need not apply for an entrance scholarship, but you will be immediately qualified to receive one when you apply to Emily Carr. Selection will be made on a combination of your academic and artistic merit.

CIBC Award for Excellence Scholarship

CIBC awards two $2500 Entrance Scholarships.
You need not apply for an entrance scholarship, but you will be immediately qualified to receive one when you apply to Emily Carr. Selection will be made on a combination of your academic and artistic merit.

Entrance scholarships

  • To recognize high academic achievement and creative potential, we offer graduate entrance scholarships to incoming students who are beginning their studies.
  • We offer non-renewable, non-transferable tuition waivers to domestic and international applicants in all graduate programs upon acceptance.

You do not need to apply for an entrance scholarship. All applicants are considered. The selection is based on your application’s academic and artistic merit.
