Road to Research Scholarship

Students pursuing brief research projects in Year 2 of the Master of Research (MRes) program are supported by this stipend.

Selection process

  1. Candidates will be ranked based on their weighted average mark (or grade point average if they graduated before 2020). The highest-ranked applicants will receive scholarships. International qualifications will be evaluated following.
  2. Australian Government rules to ascertain their comparability to qualifications listed on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Availability

Recipients of awards will be limited to those who, at the time of application:

  1. They are in Australia onshore and want to live in Sydney for the duration of their candidature. They want to start their Master of Research Year 2 in January 2024 (S1 2024).
  2. Are studying full-time, satisfy the English language proficiency requirements for Macquarie research degrees, meet the criteria for direct admission to MRes Year 2, and, for overseas students, have a valid visa that permits them to start their studies in January 2024. 
  3. You will still need to apply for a student visa before beginning the MRes program if your current visa prevents you from studying in Australia until the end of the course. 
  4. You must also have confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher (desirable for the other faculties and mandatory for FMHHS).

Not be available to those candidates who:

  1. Are presently enrolled in a higher degree research program at Macquarie, which includes current MRes Year 2 candidates who are enrolled in the MRes Year 1/BPhil program because they are being considered for the MRes Y2 scholarship during their advancement and because they are receiving another significant or equivalent award, scholarship, or salary to pursue the proposed course.
  2. I possess a research degree at a level equivalent to or greater than the proposed one
  3. and would like to begin the MRes Year 2 program in Session 2 of 2024 (there will be no opportunity for deferrals).
  4. Give the University inaccurate or deceptive information. The University maintains the right to reconsider the student’s eligibility for the award if there is cause for concern that this requirement still needs to be met.
  5. send incomplete applications.

Components

  1. A tuition fee offset for a maximum of one-year.
  2. A living allowance stipend of $35,000 for one-year.

China Scholarship Council Scholarship

Through a cooperative agreement, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) research scholarship offers assistance to individuals from the People’s Republic of China so they can pursue a research degree at Macquarie University.

Availability

You have to:

  1. Be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China and a permanent resident at the time of application; fulfill the prerequisites set forth by the Australian government for a student visa for postgraduate research;
  2. Apply and fulfill all admission requirements for a Master of Research or Ph.D. degree, including the English proficiency requirement
  3. have been offered admission to a PhD program at Macquarie University, either unconditionally or conditionally;
  4. Be eligible for all other scholarships available by the China Scholarship Council and get a scholarship offer from Macquarie University.

Components

Successful PhD candidates will receive:

  1. iMQRES tuition fee offset for a maximum of three years
  2. Together with a co-funded living allowance of $35,000 per year at a fixed rate.

Candidates for the Master of Research (MRes) program who are accepted will receive: 

  1. Co-funded stipend (living allowance) for up to 12 months at a fixed rate of $35,000 per-year.
  2. Tuition for iMQRES is offset for a maximum of 12 months.

How to apply

For admission and a scholarship, new applicants must apply to Macquarie University. 

  1. When submitting an online application through the Applicant Portal, choose the course you want to apply for and the MQCSC – Macquarie University – China Scholarship Council (CSC) Scholarship.
  2. Apple University will evaluate the applications. If accepted, you will receive a preliminary offer letter from Macquarie University. To apply to the China Scholarship Council, you must have this letter.
  3. Following that, Macquarie University will give the China Scholarship Council a list of qualified applicants for both the program for which they have received a provisional offer and the scholarship.
  4. The China Scholarship Council will assess applications and choose scholars based on merit. Successful applicants will get award letters from the China Scholarship Council and the organization will make the final list of scholarship recipients public.
  5. Macquarie University will contact the chosen candidates, and they will need to send the official China Scholarship Council award letter to the university.

Mexican CONACYT-Macquarie University Scholarships

Together, The National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) of the United Mexican States and we are working to increase Mexican students’ access to research degrees at Macquarie University.

Availability

Candidates who are qualified to enroll in the following courses are eligible for the scholarship:

  1. An 18-month Master of Research program (MRes)
  2. An MRes program lasting four years, Year 2 plus Doctorate
  3. A three-year, direct-entrance Ph.D.

Components

This co-funded scholarship includes 

  1. A tuition fee offset, with 30% coming from Macquarie University 
  2. 70% coming from CONACYT.

How to apply

Prospective students must apply to Macquarie University to be on the consideration list for admission and financial aid.

You must submit the contact information for two academic references with your online application to be eligible for the award.

Untangling environmental effects on bee health

This study uses multi-omics approaches at landscape scales to investigate the causes of bee health and evolution in honeybees and bumblebees. This initiative will strengthen the ability to handle risks to pollination services.

About the scholarship

The Ph.D. project would suit candidates with a background in some or all of the following:

  1. evolution
  2. genetics
  3. landscape ecology
  4. viruses
  5. microbiomes
  6. metabarcoding.

In this project we will:

  1. Find out how Varroa mites affect the viral populations that affect honeybees and bumblebees.
  2. Determine the effects of diet and the bee gut microbiota on bee virus populations in various situations.
  3. Determine how the antiviral immune response of bees and their history of invasion influence the evolution and diversity of viruses in new habitats.

The project’s design will be flexible, and applicants can concentrate on a specific topic or create relevant questions.

Availability

The scholarship is available to candidates eligible for a direct entry three-year PhD program.
