How to study in Lithuania

Select your course of study in a Lithuanian university
- Verify your academic history with the requirements for enrollment in the study program. Details about the required documents are available on the university’s website.
- Put together all of the necessary paperwork. Show up for the required exam.
- The Lithuanian Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education should review your academic records and foreign school-leaving certificates (CQAHE)
- Once approved, you can submit an online application and all required documentation to a higher education institution.
- Apply for a student visa when you receive the university’s admission letter.

Applying for a Lithuanian student visa
- International students should be aware of the following details before applying for a student visa:
- A student visa is optional for students traveling from the EU.
- Students from a few non-EU nations, including the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, can enter Lithuania without a visa. However, they must apply for one once they arrive.
- While registering with the Lithuanian Migration Department within seven days of arrival is mandatory, EU students are not required to have a residence permit.
- Everyone traveling to Lithuania for academic purposes, except the aforementioned students, must apply for a national visa and a temporary residency permit.
Temporary Residence Permit
All students from non-EU nations must also obtain a temporary residency permit. The permit allows foreign students to temporarily remain in Lithuania for the duration specified in the permission.
The Lithuanian embassy in your area is where you can apply for a visa. Lithuanian student visas are typically granted in 15 days. The visa application fee may cost up to €120.
Study and work in Lithuania
Lithuanian government allows international students to work part-time during their studies under some conditions.
- In Lithuania, working as a student is permitted for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
- Study abroad students will require a work permit. However, this may not apply if hired during training or to work in social or scientific research.
After graduating, non-EU students can apply for a 15-month temporary residence permit to stay in the country and look for employment.

National visa D (full-time study purpose)
Students intending to enroll in successive full-time courses at a Lithuanian higher education institution should apply for a multiple entry national visa D upon arrival.
- Electronically filled out Visa Application Form (D type to be selected).
- A single, recent, 35 x 45 colored passport photo on a white background.
- A passport valid for travel (with at least two blank pages and issued within the last ten years; the passport’s validity period must be at least six months longer than the desired visa’s).
- Current health insurance that will cover the entire stay. It needs to work throughout the Schengen Area. The insurance coverage cannot be for less than EUR 30,000.
- A verified reservation for airline tickets.
- Electronically submitted mediation letter from Lithuanian educational institution via (EPIS): https://epis.vrm.lt (just the mediation application number needs to be sent to the Visa Office).
- Affidavit of Sponsorship from parents/relatives and their proof of financial means; in the event of sponsorship; proof of financial means (300 EUR for each month of planned stay) in the Republic of Lithuania (original, personally signed, and appropriately stamped private bank statement detailing transactions for the previous three months).
- Properly legalized educational background documents
- There were 120 consular fees.

The Lithuanian Embassy retains the authority to ask for more paperwork and/or to schedule an interview with the candidate.
Student visa applicants are requested to follow the below-listed guidelines strictly:
- Applications for student visas must be submitted in person.
- All supporting documentation for a visa application, such as financial records, travel insurance, and flight reservations, must be authentic and current.
- The processing period for visa applications is 14 days unless more consultation is needed.
