The University of Canberra PhD Scholarship offers highly skilled and driven researchers an exceptional chance to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Canberra (UC) through the University of Canberra PhD Scholarship. This award is intended to assist both domestic and international students who want to pursue autonomous, advanced research that advances knowledge and tackles pressing issues.
Research Scholarships
The University of Canberra offers various university research scholarships to help qualified individuals pursue a full-time Doctor of Philosophy. Academic merit, strategic alignment, research proposal, and research experience are the main determinants of selection.
Graduate Research oversees the scholarship’s administration throughout its duration and the application procedure for both domestic and foreign applicants. The University Research Scholarship Committee is in charge of allocating the funding.

- Current PhD candidates* may apply for a Research Scholarship at the University of Canberra. To apply for a Research Scholarship, you must also use their official website.
University Research Scholarship
Starting with Semester 1, 2024, the following university research scholarships are offered:
Scholarships for Stipends under the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP)
Scholarships for UC Higher Degrees by Research Stipend are available to domestic and foreign applicants.
Industry Co-funded Scholarships
The University will provide several industry-co-funded scholarships this year for research initiatives involving outside organisations and end users (business, government, industry, and community):
- Twelve industry-funded scholarships are available for researchers whose work aligns with the university’s strategic theme of economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
- Ten industrial scholarships are co-funded and not themed.

Faculty-managed and Other Research Scholarships
Information about particular research scholarships provided by faculties, the application process, and deadlines are provided by faculty-managed and other scholarships.
University Research Scholarships Conditions
Postgraduate research students with excellent research promise can receive support from the Australian Government through the RTP Stipend Scholarship, which the federal government supports, and the UC HDR Stipend Scholarship.

Eligibility
- International students and domestic students (citizens of New Zealand, permanent residents of Australia, or both)
- Must not have held an Australian government-funded research scholarship for longer than six months in the past.
Funding
- The annual payment of $30,000 (2023 rate, tax-free) to help with living expenses will increase annually.
- Reimbursement of moving expenses for new hires only within six months after the start date. The Conditions of Award contain more information.
- Foreign applicants whose applications are accepted to begin offshore will receive their stipend scholarship once they are able to complete their work onshore. Once students arrive at the Bruce campus of the University of Canberra, the stipend will be reimbursed.

- A fee sponsorship to pay tuition will also be given to international candidates.

Scholarship Application Ranking Process
- Applications for scholarships are evaluated for completion and Ph.D. admission eligibility.
- The relevant faculties then receive them, and academic staff members evaluate and score the applications based on merit, including educational credentials, strategic alignment, research proposal, and research experience.
- After reviewing the faculty rankings, the University Research Scholarship Committee awards the top-ranked applicants university research scholarships in order of merit.
