Scholarships for research degrees

Scholarships are awarded competitively according to academic standing, work history, prior education, and other pertinent achievements. New applicants in strategic research fields will get the priority.

There are scholarships available to cover some or all of the following;

1. living allowance
2. tuition fees
3. relocation allowance

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships

Given out on a competitive basis to students with outstanding research potential to help with living expenses as they pursue a higher degree through research. Allowance for Living

Standard Duration

PhD: three years, with no chance of extension. It is crucial to understand that the scholarship’s duration is shorter than the four-year maximum application period.
Masters: 2 years with no extension available.

Tuition Fees

International: International HDR applicants must pay tuition fees for the duration of their research degree unless they have been granted a tuition fee scholarship. Candidates from abroad must pay an annual fee.

Relocation Allowance

Up to AUD 2,000 in RTP Allowance can be used to help with the costs of moving to Tasmania to pursue a Higher Degree in Research.

Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS)

All University of Tasmania research fields are eligible to apply for Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarships, which will be for candidates with a strong aptitude for research.

Living Allowance

USD 32,192 annually (2024 exchange rate). The university updates this rate every year on January 1st.
