University of Sudbury in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada is a bilingual and multicultural institution for higher education. It offers undergraduate courses in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Indigenous Studies, Journalism, and Folklore in both French and English. As a result of Laurentian University’s financial crisis in 2021, all of its federated schools’ affiliations with Laurentian were terminated on May 1, 2021. It was subsequently announced that the University of Sudbury would continue to operate as an independent university in the French language. As a result of becoming a francophone university in 2021 to better serve the needs of the Francophone and Francophile populations in North-East Ontario, Sudbury is presently in a transitional period. The University of Saskatchewan is the oldest postsecondary school in Northern Ontario.
