Bilkent University is a private non-profitable research institution in Ankara, Turkey. It is also written as Bilkent Ãœniversitesi in Turkish. In 1984, it began with the goal of building an institution of excellence in academia and research by Ä°hsan DoÄŸramacı, the first president of The Council of Higher Education and the head of the famous DoÄŸramacı family. The institution, modeled after Harvard University, was Turkey’s primary not-for-profit educational institution. The word Bilkent is an abbreviation for bilim kenti, which means “city of science” in Turkish. English is the medium of instruction at Bilkent. There are 760 academic members, with international faculty members from 34 countries accounting for one-fourth of the total. In addition, there is an increasing number of full-time international and exchange students from 67 countries.

Bilkent University ranking

Since its inception, it has always been among the top Turkish universities. The World University Rankings ranked it as the 112th best university in the world in 2011. Moreover, according to the Bilkent University QS ranking, it ranks at 561-570 position in the world. Also, according to the world university ranking by subject, this university comes between 401-450. In addition, Bilkent University ranking in Turkey is 9th on the list. Furthermore, it holds a position among 801-1000 according to the Times Higher Education in world university rankings. Besides that, 61% is the acceptance rate.

Bilkent University programs

The university enrolls 13,000 students in 29 undergraduate and 58 graduate programs. 63% of the undergraduate and postgraduate student is on University scholarship. There are a number of subjects available in different faculties. It includes the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Art, Design, and Architecture. In addition, other Faculties are Business Administration, Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences. Moreover, a large number of student body get admission to the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities and Letters, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Music and Performing Art, and Faculty of Science.
